[f_minor] new CBC GG website etc.

Yay, the exploding pizza network came through in the end...this boxed set and new website will give us all endless hours of enjoyment. It has obviously been long in the planning....indeed curious how we didn't know until now. 

 I remember some of the old TV programs from when I was a kid but at that time I was more of a rocknroll fan so more often than not preferred watching the teen shows of the time.(Aaargh! Now I'm older and wiser.) And yes the Canadian postal system is expensive so be prepared to fork out a chunk wherever shipping is involved.

How about those early American shows (e.g. GG on Leonard Bernstein's show) etc. Anyone know if they're available in their complete versions ? We can just get glimpses of them on youtube....I haven't researched it.

Hi Pat and all,

not sure where you've found that price Pat,  'cause on the cbc shop I see CAD $ 59.99 plus $ 24.95 shipping (to Europe) total $ 84.94, around 60 euros, plus in my case 20% vat and 6% duty, total 75 euros to my home, still a true bargain of course.
However best price for europeans right now is from Slovakia: euros 58.57 including shipping ( http://shop.supermusic.sk/shop_item.php?id=9001190   ) and they accept paypal (cbc doesn't)
One month ago it was priced around 45 euros in preorder on some european webshops like bol.com but now price has increased to around 75 euros on most.
Let's keep the ean search monitored anyway, still one month to wait for the availability date.

  10 DVDs with 19 hours for 44 canadian and american bucks, roughly 30 Euros, same in british Pounds (36 CHF for me) is quite a bargain !

  However, this is a DVD Region 1 set, meaning that if you live in Europe i.e. these DVDs might not play on your device. There are legal ways to get around that, depending on the device in question.

  it must also be taken into consideration that the shipping charges are close to street robbery (25 CND for International Orders, 13 bucks for our american friends), given that delivery times range from 3 to six weeks.

  In any case, summet to look forward to !

I am amazed by such a comment. Any and all self-respecting European cinephiles purchase "multi-zone" dvd players which are readily available at all stores, at least in CH,
at little or no extra expense than a "region 2" player. 

North Americans are the public with least access to (or need for) "multi-zone" players. It was the same story with VHS.

As for Gould's "style as a presenter" perhaps now being seen as anachronistic, I doubt it. "Idiosyncrasy will out".

I am reminded of a quote by Rudolf Serkin from Bazzana's 'Wondrous Strange'; recalling a GG radio program Serkin commented:

"He said ridiculous things which made me mad but then at the end he played and everything was all right."

As for how people will react to viewing these long unseen programs: Gouldians, predictable - General Public, no reaction
because they won't buy the collection. Only when the bits and pieces begin appearing on youtube or as dvd rips will one
be able to assess the Gen'l. Public's reception. Kit is as Kit does.
